We’re Ready! (This is all we need, right?)

There haven’t been a ton of exciting surrogacy updates lately because, well, we’re in the middle of the non-exciting part. We’ve had our first meeting with our attorney and she walked us through all the insanely minute details and decisions we must come to an agreement on and get all the legal stuff in order for, and that definitely takes some time. We’ve come to realize that typically, no one really sits down before you get pregnant to say “let’s think about all the decisions we’re going to make over the next 9 months, or possibly might have to make over the next 9 months, and make them all right now!” Everything from whether there’s a special healthy diet we’d like her to follow to what to do in an emergency if we must decide between the baby and the mother’s life. Fun stuff. I suppose the event planner in me doesn’t hate it, but it’s definitely not what you usually think of when starting a family!

In the meantime, we’ve created a long list of projects for the house in order to prepare for the arrival of a third Gorman! The biggest project being converting our living room into a study so that my existing office can become the nursery. And, since my existing office also doubled as ground zero for Custom Nutcrackers by Crys, my recently neglected but previously thriving side hustle, there has been a lot to rearrange around here. All things nutcracker have moved into the garage, but that meant we had to clean out and organize the garage. But in order to do that, we had to clean out and organize the attic. Then in order to convert the living room, we had to clean out and organize the laundry room. And every other closet in the house. So it’s basically a life-size shell game around here. BUT, after several months, we’ve made a little progress and the soon-to-be nursery closet is empty and ready for baby things!

We have a size 2T onesie we bought in faith while I was going through cancer and my own baby blanket that my grandmother made for me when I was born. I mean, we’re pretty much ready, right?

(For the record, this pretty much sums up my baby knowledge. I somehow made it to 40 years old and over a decade in children’s ministry without ever changing a diaper. Remember Rachel on Friends, the “baby dummy”? She’s a genius in my book. Moms of the world, I’m gonna need ALL the advice.)
