Surrogacy Update: The Announcement We Didn’t Want to Make

It’s been a minute since we’ve posted any surrogacy updates, and truth be told, I had hoped that we might be able to make some exciting announcements by about this time. But as you can already tell from the tenor of this post, we’re disappointed to say that we won’t be making any of those kinds of announcements anytime soon. If you’re just catching up, we received an unsolicited text back in January of last year from a wonderful woman who was willing to be our surrogate. We started taking…

So, Here’s The Thing…

The blog has been a little quiet lately and when it comes to our IVF and surrogacy journey you might be thinking, “What’s the news?? What’s going on?? What’s the latest??” So, here’s the thing…

Surrogacy Update…And Now for the Awkward Part

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted any updates on our surrogacy journey, but that’s because we’ve been slogging through things like medical screenings, attorneys, and more insurance policies than I ever knew existed. But we are getting close to having all that in place and being ready to get started!

As you know, we did not need to go through an agency to find our surrogate (or if you don’t, you can read the AMAZING story of how we found our surrogate here). If we did, the minimum costs with an agency are around $75,000. But because God made a way and we didn’t need the agency, the minimum costs are closer to $50,000 (they are “minimum” because the costs will be increased if she has to go on bed rest, if there are multiples, if it takes multiple tries to get pregnant, if we have to activate a back-up health plan, all sorts of various possibilities in play…)

So now we’ve got the embryos, we’ve got the surrogate, all we need now are the funds to make it all happen! So we’ve set up a GoFundMe page and we could really use your help. We’ve learned that GoFundMe works similar to Facebook, in the sense that it uses an algorithm and the more shares, likes, comments, etc your page gets then the more likely it is to be shown to more people on their platform. $50,000 is a number that will be difficult to reach even within our own network of friends and family, so if you feel led to give we would be forever grateful, but if not then you can still help in major ways by sharing and spreading the word. Anything we can do to get our story in front of as many people as possible would be a great help to reach our goal.

Above all and before anything else, we ask for your continued prayers. We trust the Way Maker will continue to make a way and do only what He can do! Here are our specific prayer requests;
  • That we continue to seek and hear His will
  • His blessing and protection for a healthy surrogate, pregnancy, and Baby Gorman
  • His generous provisions for all our needs
  • This story would continue to be used for His glory

We can’t wait for the day when we will tell our future child the lengths we went to and the number of people who were involved in bringing them into this world!
