Surgery This Week

If you are awake, this Thursday I’ll be having surgery at 7am and would love your prayers! I’m looking forward to it in a weird way because it’s the last big step in the reconstruction process! It’s getting rid of the wonderfully comfortable temporary situation I’ve got going on and finally replacing it with the long-term implants…you know, the kind people elect to have even when they are perfectly healthy! Once I’m all recovered I should be able to much more freely move, workout, sleep, and all the other normal things that normal people do. That being said, it’s still surgery and all the anxiety that comes with it.

The surgery should take about 60-90 minutes and I’ll go home afterwards – it’s a much easier process than some of the others I’ve been through! No hospital stay, no restrictions about how I won’t be able to lift my arms, no sleeping on an incline, none of that nonsense. Just probably a weekend, maybe a week, full of feeling crummy. I’ll be sore for a few weeks after that but shouldn’t be a huge deal, and I’ll even be able to return to working out after just 4 weeks!

Some of you have already asked if we need anything or offered to make meals, and while we are unbelievably blessed by your generosity, honestly I think we will be just fine for this one. I won’t be down for long and this IS surgery #6 after all so by now, we’ve gotten a lot of things figured out (although I’ll be happy to be less skilled in this particular area going forward).
In fact, we finally realized “hey, why don’t we spend the night at a hotel in Dallas the night before so when we have to be there at 5am we can wake up a little later!” Only took 6 times to figure that one out. #GormansForTheWin

So prayers are all we need for now but don’t discount their power! And we will certainly reach out to our awesome support system if some needs do pop up. Here’s to a smooth surgery and a quick recovery!
