This Friday begins the butt-kicking of the second half of chemo with the new, single-drug regimen. All signs point to this being easier than the first half, but there’s always some nerves going into something new and you don’t totally know what to expect yet. So I covert your prayers as we jump in, here’s some specific ways to pray;
– The one “scary” side effect is this drug can affect your nerves, and can cause you to lose feeling in your fingers and toes. So please pray for protection against this. Of course, they said a lot of scary things at the beginning of this journey and not all of them happened, so I am claiming in advance that this won’t be a problem!
– Pray for good sleep. This drug is also good at keeping you up at night, something I’m already fantastic at on my own! 3am insomnia is also when I find myself most vulnerable to wandering thoughts and the lies that Satan likes to whisper in my ear.
– Pray for perseverance; I will have doctor appointments every Thursday and chemo every Friday until my last treatment on December 21. This sounds exhausting all by itself!
– This one is a vain request…but I am praying my hair starts growing back! My doctor didn’t really seem to expect that it would, but she did say some young people (look, I’m young!) do experience their hair already growing back at this stage. I’m not expecting it, but it would be awesome if I could be one of those people.
– Finally, and above all, pray for total annihilation of cancer cells so we never face this again. I’ve been requesting total healing – but I’m changing this (Jedi mind trick!) because I am already healed! So instead of healing, we’re in total-destruction-of-the-enemy mode.
You can also pray for my amazing husband who is an unmovable rock during all this – seriously, he’s amazing. But he’s also human too and can use extra portions of perseverance, strength, capacity, and I’m sure patience with his crazy wife ;).
Thank you for all the prayers over this season. There is no way we could get through this time without them. December 21…here we come!
